Eykhoff (1974) defined a mathematical model as "A representation of the essential aspects of an existing system (or a system to be constructed) which presents knowledge of that system in usable form." Human beings have always been learning from nature. We can try to comprehend fairly complex phenomena in the world by identifying the guiding principles and predicting consequences. Math modeling deals with modelling of systems on paper using mathematical concepts and ideas. Here the accuracy of a prediction completely depends on the kind of assumptions made in modeling the real world. In this contest, you should not only represent the system accurately as a mathematical model but you also need to look at the computability of your model. It is imperative to strike the delicate balance between precision and tractability. First: N.G. Srinivas, Bhargav, IIT Madras Second: Vasanth, IIT Madras Third: Anand Theertha, Kashyap, IIT Madras Congratulations winners! Qualification will be through a 1 hour written qualifying round. This will be followed by a 2 hour final. In the finals, selected teams will have to attempt problem statements posed to them from different fields of engineering. Winners will be selected based on the ingenuity, 1. Teams may consists of as many as three members. 2. The event will be an on-the-spot event and will not require any pre-registration. 3. The decision of the coordinators is binding and final.
