Robotics Workshop

Note:

  • People are expected to come one hour before the start time of their scheduled slot.
  • Since the number of registrations we expect is more than one session can accommodate, we will be holding it in two four sessions, the first on Saturday morning [8 am - 12 pm] (parallel with Networking Workshop session 2), the second on Saturday evening [3:30 pm - 7:30 pm] (parallel with Ethical hacking session 1), the third on Sunday morning [8 am - 12 pm] (parallel with Ethical hacking session 2) and the final session on Sunday evening [3:30 pm - 7:30 pm].

This exebit, we'll be having an exciting hands-on session on robotics with Balaji Lakshmanan, a student of IIT Madras who is currently the founder & CEO at Geeky Technology & Consulting. While at IIT Madras, he researched in area of Robotics and Robot learning/Multi-Robot systems at the department of Computer Science and Engineering. The workshop will cover hands-on robot making and controlling it from computer. It is aimed at enthusing students to continue working in Robotics, take part in competitions, and keep doing bigger projects!

The cost of this workshop is Rs. 300 per head. This is to cover the cost of the kits which will be given to each team during the workshop. 
Please note that this workshop is held in parallel with the Ethical Hacking workshop as well as the Networking workshop.

  1. Mechanical: Making the Robot Model
    • Make a robot model using motors, wheels, chasis, caster wheel.
    • Concepts explained - Different types of motors and their utility, gears, pulley, chain sprocket system, size of robot and wheel, stability, Load capacity etc
    • Videos of different types of mobile robots
  2. Electronics: Control circuitry, integration
    • Electrical connection between motors, ICs, ports, battery.
    • Explanation in detail :Relays, motor driver, sensors , micro controller
  3. Computer Science: Controlling the Robot from Computer
    • Parallel port, Serial port connections, settings
    • Basic program to control the robot (Windows and Linux)
    • About Tools and softwares for robotics ( Player Stage, Gazeebo, Microsoft Robotics Studio)
    • Extension and Integration to Image processing, networking, AI

Kit : Good plastic Mobile robot Model, circuits, port connector, battery/ holder, program source code Note: The kit will be given to the team as a whole. However individuals will be given certificates.

Venue: Research Scholars Bay (RSB) and Hardware Lab, Computer Sciences Block
